October's Book
I had a friend come up and ask me how my happiness project was going. Thanks, Martine for asking.😘 This is what I found. First of all, It was easier for me to list the things that made me unhappy, then I could easily list what made me happy. Here goes... Taking care of myself to stay healthy, scheduling in quality time for family and friends, daily goals of organizing and getting rid of things not needed anymore, making my office beautiful and a place I want to go to, cleaning out that storage room, finishing our basement and other odds and ends in our home, pursuing my dreams and goals are all things that make me happy. Along with a few other things like riding in the mustang with the top down on a sunny day, entertaining friends, good live music and plays, beauty products, positive psychology, prosecco, cooking and having fun with the man of my dreams... Most of all, I realized that not taking anything for granted, having gratitude, and being thankful for what has been given to me is truly the most important part of being happy. Also, having a positive focus, having hope, and knowing the tough times in my life, things I struggled with, or when I did not feel well, made me appreciate everything a little more than I did before. Lastly, I can't forget the one who made me. Nehemiah 8:10, ... for the joy of the Lord is my strength.
A lot of my focus has been on overcoming hurts and traumas, but who wants to stop there? I read this book a long time ago, and I am looking forward to reading it again. I am ready to turn my focus on to more happiness and adding more joy into my life.
Let's do this journey together!
If you have another book in mind, please share with us. :)

This book was a delightful read for
multiple reasons. Life can often feel
overly serious as we strive for
improvement and new achievements,
which can take away from our happiness.
We tend to get caught up in routines,
forgetting to appreciate life's moments
and to consider our genuine aspirations.
This book inspired me to chase my
dreams, embrace positive changes,
and relish every moment
in the here now.

Trauma is a fact of life. Veterans and their families deal with the painful aftermath of combat; one in five Americans has been molested; one in four grew up with alcoholics; one in three couples have engaged in physical violence. Dr. Bessel van der Kolk, one of the world’s foremost experts on trauma, has spent over three decades working with survivors. In The Body Keeps the Score, he uses recent scientific advances to show how trauma literally reshapes both body and brain, compromising sufferers’ capacities for pleasure, engagement, self-control, and trust. He explores innovative treatments—from neurofeedback and meditation to sports, drama, and yoga—that offer new paths to recovery by activating the brain’s natural neuroplasticity. Based on Dr. van der Kolk’s own research and that of other leading specialists, The Body Keeps the Score exposes the tremendous power of our relationships both to hurt and to heal—and offers new hope for reclaiming lives.
