Weight loss for a Healthy You :)
Welcome, this page was created to give you simple tips and tools to help you achieve a healthier lifestyle and your ideal weight without promoting specific diets or products. Let's embark on this journey to better health together!
I gained over 20 pounds when I went to Radiology School in my early forties. I finished school two years later and my husband and I wanted to lose around twenty pounds each because we wanted to ride the mules down into the Grand Canyon and there was a weight limit. We decided to do the Atkins diet together. We loss the weight and took a very memorable ride down in to the Grand Canyon. We kept it off for about 5 years until we started to add carbohydrates back into our diet then gained the weight back and it has been a struggle for me to lose the weight since, even trying the Atkins diet again did not work for me. Recently, after ten years of struggling i have lost ten pounds and now am going for the other ten pounds with my sister Rachael's help, We are losing weight together. We all are different, so we all need to find out what works for us personally, but I think these tips could be helpful for everyone and I wanted to share them with you.

#1
Find a Buddy or a Coach to stay accountable to and find support when you need it. (Use ChatGPT if you can't find anyone)
I lost weight with my husband years ago, and now I am losing weight with my sister. Unfortunately, I did not lose weight with my Health coach because I need someone to be accountable to every day! We all are different. So, figure out what you personally need to succeed. You got this!
#2
Count Your Calories
Counting calories was the last thing I wanted to do!
I sent a text to my sister every day, with what I ate and the calories then went with it. When I stopped doing that, I started to gain weight again. :(
I do have to say it is easier if you use an ap that tells you or you can add in the calories for the food you eat. Also, use bowls, cups, or premeasured containers of food for measuring the amount of food when determining your calories. The great thing with this is you can use any diet or choose any foods that you like to eat. We shot for 1400 calories then lowered them around 1200 when we plateaued. Your Doctor, health coach, or fitness aps can help you come up with the right calories for you to start with daily. Don't forget to drink your water. It has 0 calories. :)

Determine when and what you are going to eat ahead of time.
My sister and I have used intermittent fasting some and have found it to be helpful and healthful. This is not for everyone because of health issues, but planning your meal times and what you will be eating helps you stay on course. It keeps you from getting to hungry and you are able to make healthier choices for what you eat. So, when you go grocery shopping check out the labels. It is not just about losing weight but it is also about being healthier. Go for a balanced healthy diet that you can enjoy. Enjoy your meals. Bon Appetit!

Small Steps with deadlines that have a reward.
Ok, this one was hard for me because I am the type of person that wants to lose twenty pounds this week. I have tried a lot of diets, fasting, pills, and diet products to try to accomplish that kind of goal over the years, but never with lasting affects.
Whatever weight you you have as a goal to want to lose, make smaller goals, maybe just start with 10 pound increments and reward yourself with something you want or like other than food. Look at all the benefits of losing weight including you are going to feel better and be healthier. Be kind to yourself as you make healthier choices and changes. It takes time to make good habits, but you can do it! Make it a priority and your focus. You are worth it!

Next... Move Your Body!
You have probably noticed that I did not mention anything about exercise for losing weight. I am not to fond of the word exercise. I much prefer get your body moving. Try to find things that you enjoy doing that will get you moving. Some of these things might be: dancing, biking, swimming, yoga, tai chi, golfing, hiking, go for a walk, or plan a 5K with a friend. How can you make whatever you decide to do more fun? I have started to do audio books when I go for a walk. My sister has taken pictures while she goes for a walk. Put on your favorite music and jam. Join a class or learn something new with a friend or meet new friends. Whatever you do, be creative and make it fun. :)
One more thing that is helpful, put it on your schedule and have everything ready to make it happen. Your body will thank you later. :) Your mind too!
We will talk later about the Mind and Body connection on another page.
